Released in 2010, Asetek’s Gen3 pump platform delivered a completely new compact form factor without sacrificing the performance that our Gen2 platform came to be known for.
By reducing the height of the pump, we created the potential to liquid cool components beyond CPUs, such as GPUs like the PNY GTX580.
Utilized by customers like Corsair, PNY, and Antec, the Gen3 pump can be identified by the exposed portion of the motor in the pump cap.
The release of the Gen4 pump platform in 2012 brought advances in liquid flow, thermal performance, and manufacturability over Gen3. We revised the pump cap industrial design to create a clean looking lid that is clearly differentiated compared to our previous generation of pumps.
Gen4 also brought advances in retention technology, bringing the market the robust and reliable retention mechanism we have today on many Gen4 and 5 units.
Gen4 is the most utilized pump platform in the history of Asetek, driving industry-leading products from Corsair, NZXT, Thermaltake, Dell, HP, Intel, Cray, and many more.
Gen5 was released in 2015 with a clear focus on optimizing noise and thermal performance through chamber and material optimizations. A move to a more efficient motor smoothed out performance and aided in reducing motor noise in previous generations.
The mechanical design and form factor of the previous generations were revised from a side inlet/outlet to a vertical inlet/outlet to provide best in class performance. Gen5 is recognizable in most cases by the vertically exiting tubes, with the exception of the new Kraken Xx2 Series.
Prior to the introduction of Asetek sealed all-in-one liquid coolers, achieving the high performance and low noise benefits of liquid cooling:
1) Required a plumber to install
2) Required frequent topping off of the fluid and occasional flushing of the cooling system
3) Suffered from poor reliability and sporadic leaks
4) Was expensive.
